In this course students will gain fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to function as entry level Emergency Medical Technicians. Students will be able to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. Students will be able to perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance.
This is a hybrid course with an online didactic portion and several skill lab sessions. Each student must also complete 24 to 48 hours of clinical field experience.
Skills lab is 9am-3pm on: Sept. 15th, 29th, Oct. 6th, 20th, Nov. 3rd, 17th, Dec. 1st.
Required book is: Prehospital Emergency Care, 11th edition by Mistovich and Karren. Please have the book purchased prior to the start of the course. Additional workbooks and Brady packages are available to go with the textbook as well if the student wishes to purchase them.
NREMT Psychomotor Exam December 8th.
Once this course is passed, you will take the National Registry CBT (written) exam as well as a National Registry Psychomotor (hands-on skills) exam, these are separate from the course. These exams are required to obtain licensing in the state of MN as well as nationally. After passing the required exams EMT’s can work on an ambulance, in an ER, progress to a paramedic program, and more.
